Thanks to USA Funds® and four other national funders that support higher education, students who transfer from community colleges to four-year programs will be able to complete their associate degree while pursuing a bachelor’s degree.
Why is this important? Pilot efforts have shown that receiving an associate degree on the way to a bachelor’s degree can actually improve the four-year degree completion rate. In addition to keeping students motivated, it also enables them to secure better jobs while continuing in school part-time.
Under the “Credit When It’s Due” initiative, 12 states have received funding to significantly expand programs that award associate degrees to transfer students. This program will provide a better understanding of the impact this kind of partnership can have and whether it should be pursued even more widely.
