Sara Wilson, USA Funds® financial literacy product manager, will join Michele Wedel of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and BizEd Consulting to lead a presentation at the upcoming National Summit on Financial Wellness.
Their presentation, “Financial Literacy ‘ROI’ — Constructing Measurable Financial Literacy Initiatives,” will be among the breakout sessions at the July 28-29 event.
The summit will gather practitioners, researchers and policymakers to examine the issue of college student financial wellness from a variety of angles. Ohio State University will host the event, which is presented in partnership with Indiana University.
In a session at 3 p.m. July 28, Wilson and Wedel will help prepare participants to develop a strategic plan for implementing financial literacy initiatives by teaching them how to:
- Develop a list of talking points, with research data, supporting the implementation of a financial literacy program on campus.
- Cite the importance of involving all stakeholders in the planning and implementation processes.
- Describe how to make financial literacy sessions interesting and relevant for students.
- Use national datasets to develop an assessment plan to measure the impact of the financial literacy initiatives.
As financial literacy product manager for USA Funds, Wilson is responsible for the development and strategic vision of USA Funds Life Skills®, an online financial literacy and college success program for students.
Wedel is an adjunct professor for IU’s Kelley School of Business and Purdue University’s School of Engineering and Technology, in addition to leading BizEd Consulting. Through IU, Wedel teaches financial literacy courses at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis that students may take for elective credits that count toward their degrees.
