21st Century Scholars

​College Success Coaching for 21st Century Scholars

This $2.4 million grant to the Indiana Commission for Higher Education will increase student retention and graduation rates for participants in the state’s 21st Century Scholars Program for low-income students. USA Funds’ grant of nearly $320,000 to the Education Commission of the States will help states redesign their financial aid programs to better focus on promoting student persistence through and completion of postsecondary education. ​Prior Learning Assessments for Montana Veterans​

A $350,000 USA Funds grant to the Montana University System will help it validate the previous learning and experience that veterans of military service already have achieved. These Prior Learning Assessments will minimize the amount of time veterans must spend to earn a degree or certificate. As a result, more veterans will complete their programs of study and thereby enhance their employment opportunities.  Montana has the second highest veteran population per capita of any state. Cowen Institute

 



​Tulane University Cowen Institute Earn and Learn Career Pathways

A $500,000 grant will help the Cowen Institute expand a pilot program for “opportunity youth” — young people, ages 16 to 24, who are neither working nor in school. Program participants work for and are paid by Tulane University, while also receiving intensive career-focused technical and academic skills training through Delgado Community College. Those completing the program receive an industry-based certificate and support to find long-term employment. Read more.

A $250,000 grant from USA Funds will help a consortium of 11 public research universities increase the graduation rates of low-income and first-generation college students. A nearly $2.5 million grant supports a partnership between USA Funds and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation to accelerate adoption of an employer-led, demand-driven model of postsecondary education and training. The initiative promotes an innovative approach to closing the “skills gap,” the gap between the skills of recent college graduates and the skills employers need in their workforces to remain globally competitive. This program encourages employers to consider postsecondary institutions as a supplier — in this case, a supplier of talent.  Read more.

​WGU Nevada

USA Funds’ support will help launch a Western Governors University in Nevada. WGU offers an online competency-based model that provides a flexible option for nontraditional students and other populations not well served by traditional higher education institutions. ​Year Up

USA Funds has awarded a $300,000 grant to Year Up to expand its successful Professional Training Corps model to three metropolitan areas – Jacksonville, Fla., Phoenix, and the Washington, D.C. area.  Year Up delivers a training program that prepares low-income young adults, ages 18-24, for professional employment with its corporate partners.
