USA Funds Accepts Applications for $3-Million Scholarship Program

INDIANAPOLIS—USA Funds®, the nation's leading education-loan guarantor, has announced that applications now are available for its $3-million national scholarship program to assist college students who demonstrate financial need. USA Funds will award $1,500 scholarships to qualified full-time undergraduate and graduate students and $750 scholarships to qualified half-time undergraduate students for the 2002–2003 academic year.

To qualify for USA Funds Access to Education Scholarships, applicants must be enrolled or plan to enroll in coursework at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, vocational/technical school or graduate school, and must come from families with annual adjusted gross household incomes of $35,000 or less. Up to 50 percent of the scholarship awards will be targeted to applicants who are members of an ethnic minority group or have a documented physical disability. Special consideration will be given to applicants from the eight states—Arizona, Hawaii and the Pacific Islands, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Mississippi, Nevada and Wyoming—that USA Funds serves as the designated guarantor of federal education loans.

"We've tripled the size of our scholarship program to help more lower-income students fill the gap between their financial resources and the cost of higher learning," said Carl C. Dalstrom, USA Funds president and CEO. "By offering these scholarships, USA Funds also is working to close the gap between college-going rates of lower-income students and their classmates from higher-income families."

To qualify for an award, applications for the USA Funds Access to Education Scholarships must be postmarked by April 15, 2002.
