New Web site offers expert college-planning help to students and families

Nevada Wiredscholar Now Online

INDIANAPOLIS — USA Funds®, the designated guarantor of federal education loans for Nevada, announces the availability of a new Web site to help Nevada residents plan and pay for higher education. Nevada Wiredscholar is a cooperative effort of USA Funds, the Nevada Department of Education and wiredscholar.com, the foremost online resource for "going-to-college" information.

"Families can go online to examine the wide range of higher-education options offered in the state, explore career options, and learn about student aid and college savings programs," said Nevada Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack W. McLaughlin.

Nevada Wiredscholar contains step-by-step tutorials on the entire college-planning process, including applying for college, preparing academically and financially for college, and repaying student loans. The site provides access to helpful college-planning tools, including a school-comparison tool, school-affordability analyzer, free online scholarship search, as well as a variety of interactive calculators and checklists.

Visitors to the site can register to receive via e-mail a free, monthly, college-planning newsletter.

"Consistent with USA Funds' mission in support of access to higher education, we're pleased to offer this college-planning Web site to Nevada residents," said Carl C. Dalstrom, USA Funds president and CEO.

"Through this partnership between the Department of Education, USA Funds and wiredscholar.com, this Web site is being provided at no cost to the state or its residents," McLaughlin said.
