Students may file one form to apply for two scholarship opportunities

USA Funds accepts applications for $3.5 million in scholarships

INDIANAPOLIS — USA Funds®, the nation’s leading education-loan guarantor, has announced that applications now are available for $3.5 million in scholarships to assist college students who demonstrate financial need. By submitting one application, students can apply for two scholarship opportunities.

USA Funds Access to Education Scholarships™ will award up to $3 million in renewable scholarships. The program offers $1,500 scholarships to qualified full-time undergraduate and graduate students and $750 scholarships to qualified half-time undergraduate students for the 2003-2004 academic year.

Applicants who are not selected to receive Access to Education Scholarships will be considered for Help America Learn™ Scholarships. The program, sponsored in part by Corning Incorporated, Fluor Corporation and Sara Lee Foundation, will provide up to $547,500 in one-time awards of $1,500 each to qualified full-time undergraduate students.

To qualify for both programs, applicants must have annual adjusted gross family incomes of $35,000 or less. Applicants must be enrolled or plan to enroll in coursework at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational/technical school beginning with the fall 2003 term through Feb. 1, 2004.

“We’re pleased to offer deserving students two opportunities to receive financial assistance for meeting the cost of higher learning,” said Carl C. Dalstrom, USA Funds president and CEO. “By providing these scholarships, USA Funds is working to close the gap between college-going rates of lower-income students and their classmates from higher-income families.”

To qualify for an award, applications must be postmarked by March 15, 2003. For complete eligibility information and to download an application, visit USA Funds’ Web site at www.usafunds.org and select “Scholarship Information” from the “Express Links” menu.
