USA Funds Scholars recognized in 11 states and the District of Columbia
USA Funds awards $315,000 in scholarships to high-school seniors
INDIANAPOLIS — USA Funds®, the nation’s leading education-loan guarantor, announces the award of $315,000 in scholarships to 210 graduating high-school seniors in 11 states and the District of Columbia. Each of the USA Funds Scholars will receive a one-time award of $1,500 for postsecondary studies.
“These USA Funds Scholars are exceptional students in states where USA Funds has a special interest in enhancing higher-education opportunities,” said Henry L. Fernandez, USA Funds executive director, access and outreach. “In keeping with our nonprofit mission, we are delighted to provide this scholarship assistance to these deserving students to help them pursue higher education.”
USA Funds Scholars are nominated by administrators of their high schools based on the following student attributes:
- Academic performance. To qualify for the scholarship, the student must have a current grade-point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
- Participation in extracurricular activities or community service. Students must participate, or have participated during their high-school careers, in school-sponsored extracurricular activities or volunteer-service work in the larger community.
- Exemplary character. The student must exemplify the best character traits of a young adult, including an attitude of respect toward school staff, fellow students and members of the larger community.
- Financial need. Consideration is given to the student’s financial need for the scholarship.
The scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors from high schools selected by USA Funds in states where USA Funds has offices or where USA Funds serves as the designated guarantor of federal student loans. Those states include: Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nevada and Wyoming, as well as the District of Columbia.
