If you meet the following requirements and have been denied a Federal
Stafford or Federal PLUS loan for college, USA Funds® may be able to
assist you.
You must meet all of the following requirements:
- You are a student, or parent of a dependent
undergraduate student.
- You are eligible to borrow loans under the Federal
Family Education Loan Program.
- You, or your dependent who is an undergraduate
student, are enrolled at least half time in a postsecondary institution that
participates in the FFELP.
- You have attempted to borrow a Federal Stafford or
Federal PLUS loan but have been unable to find a FFELP lender willing to make
a FFELP loan to you. Note: Denial of a PLUS loan because you have adverse
credit or refusal of a lender to issue a FFELP loan on terms you request does
not qualify you for a lender of last resort loan.
- You are a resident of one of the states listed below, or are attending an
eligible school in one of those states.
Federal law permits USA Funds to serve as or designate a lender of last
resort for otherwise-eligible borrowers in the eight states that USA Funds
serves as the designated guarantor. Those states are:
- Arizona.
- Hawaii and the Pacific Islands.
- Indiana.
- Kansas.
- Maryland.
- Mississippi.
- Nevada.
- Wyoming.
If you believe you qualify for a lender of last resort loan, contact your (or
your dependent undergraduate student’s) financial aid office.
