Who will be present?
Initial counseling may take place between the
student financial-aid adminstrator, the student and parent, or it may take the
form of a group meeting. Other student financial-services staff also may be
present.
When will it occur?
Loan counseling occurs in the initial stages of
the loan-origination process. If your school or college offers orientation
sessions to new students, loan counseling may also be offered at that time.
What will be discussed?
At this point you may want to introduce
students to the entrance interview components. During the initial
loan-counseling stage or during the entrance interview, financial-aid staff need
to collect information from student-borrowers. The following tools provide model
forms and procedures for use during initial counseling.
