Borrower Debt Management Information Service

USA Funds® offers the Borrower Debt Management Information Service to its school-customers as a tool to help graduating borrowers keep track of their student loans. Schools frequently use this information during exit counseling with graduating borrowers.

Loan data provided on the individual borrower form include:

  • Amounts borrowed for Federal Stafford, graduate PLUS and consolidation loans.
  • Data from the National Student Loan Data System.
  • Private-loan data stored on the CLASS servicing system of USA Funds' guarantor-servicer.

By including NSLDS and private-loan data, borrowers receive a more-complete picture of their indebtedness.

In addition, the individual reports include:

  • Name of the lender or current holder of the loan.
  • Original loan amount minus cancellations.
  • Loan period.
  • Interest rates.

Schools using BDMIS have the flexibility to define the time period during which they want to receive indebtedness statements for their students. Schools can choose the frequency of their reports by choosing the specific months in which they want to receive the reports. Schools also can choose the exact months that they want the statements to run and select a specific range of graduation dates to be included.

At the school’s request, the Borrower Debt Management Information Service can generate preview rosters a month prior to the indebtedness statements, to allow schools to ensure that their borrowers' anticipated graduation dates are up to date on the mainframe system.

The preview rosters are available to view and print in Document Direct for the Internet so that financial-aid staff can verify the list of upcoming graduating students. Schools can access DDI from the USA Funds Web site.

Schools can request that borrower debt-management reports be rerun for individual borrowers or groups of borrowers. They may request reruns of reports covering graduation dates for the previous six months or graduation dates in the future.

The Borrower Debt Management Information Service is one component of USA Funds' comprehensive default-prevention initiative. For more details or to sign up for the Borrower Debt Management Service, contact your USA Funds Services sales representative.
