Program Description: The regional default manager for
Remington College introduced USA Funds® Life Skills® to
the Lafayette campus. Subsequently, the director of financial aid attended a
training workshop to learn more about potential implementation strategies. She
and the administration agreed that the career-development class would be a great
venue for implementing Module 1: Get a Grip on Your Finances: Smart Spending
for Students and Module 5: Now That You Are About to Graduate: Taking
Control of Your Life. Budgeting, resume development and interview
strategies, and a review of popular Web sites were among the activities selected
for the class. The financial-aid director chose to approach default management
by focusing on how money management and career development work together to
prepare students for life after Remington.
The director of financial aid views the implementation of USA Funds Life
Skills as a strategy for keeping the cohort-default rate low on the Lafayette
campus.
Staffing Requirements: The director of financial aid
facilitates the delivery of Modules 1 and 5 in the career-development class.
Recommendations: The director of financial aid suggests
contacting a USA Funds representative to get a sample kit of the USA Funds Life
Skills materials. It's very important to examine the materials carefully to
determine which topics address the specific needs of the targeted student
groups. Training is especially helpful as the staff considers different
strategies for implementing the program. It's important to select a strategy
that fits the campus infrastructure and, at the same time, captures the
students' attention.
