Washington ReportCongress Extends Higher Education Act Through July The U.S. Congress has temporarily extended the authority for federal student-aid programs and other programs authorized under the Higher Education Act through July 31. Both the House and Senate are expected to act later this month on budget-reconciliation legislation that would change key student-aid provisions and on legislation reauthorizing the Higher Education Act.
