Student Lending Analytics Survey: Most Schools Plan to Remain in FFELP

A survey by Student Lending Analytics of 453 schools finds that most plan to continue to use the Federal Family Education Loan Program for the 2009-2010 academic year. The survey was conducted after the U.S. House Committee on Education and Labor approved legislation mandating that all new loans be originated in the William D. Ford Direct Loan Program beginning next July 1.

The 453 respondents provided the following information about their loan program participation plans:

  • 56 percent plan to stay in the FFELP.
  • 19 percent plan to stay in the Direct Loan Program.
  • 8 percent are switching to the Direct Loan Program.

The remaining respondents were undecided, plan to offer both FFELP and direct loans or provided other answers.
