OpenNet Tip: Using Queries to Find Applications for FFELP Certification

The Applications/Certifications function of the OpenNet loan-delivery system allows users to perform queries to find Federal Family Education Loan Program applications that are awaiting school certification. Users can choose from either “Express” or “Custom” queries.

Certify FFELP Certifications — Express Query permits real-time quick searches of all FFELP applications awaiting school certification, directly from the loan-processing mainframe system. It offers limited filter criteria for use in retrieving the list of loans awaiting certification. Users can select the following filter options for Express queries:

  • Date range.
  • Loan program.
  • Campus.
  • Sort options.

After a school clicks on “Submit,” the “Awaiting Certification Results” screen displays. Then users can “Certify App” or export results to a Comma Separated Value file or Excel file.

Certify FFELP Certifications — Custom Query retrieves batch data from the loan-processing mainframe system; then, the user can narrow query results by using a larger range of filter criteria than that available in Express Query. In addition, schools can access previously saved queries from the Custom Query screen.

When creating a new custom query, users must complete the fields for “Awaiting Certification Status” and “Loan Period,” and can choose from the following additional filter criteria:

  • Application status.
  • Loan program.
  • School campus.
  • Federal lender.
  • Guarantor.
  • Grade level.

Once users select report-filter criteria, they can choose “Submit” to obtain query results or “Save and Submit” to obtain query results and save the query for later use. The “Awaiting Certification Results” offers the option to “Certify App,” “Cancel App” or “Print Prom Note.” The report-results screen also offers the option to export results into a Comma Separated Value file or Excel file.
