Department Issues Final Rules on Student-Aid Changes, New Grant Programs
The U.S. Department of Education has published final regulations to implement changes in federal student-aid programs resulting from the Higher Education Reconciliation Act of 2005 and other recently enacted legislation. All changes outlined in the regulations are effective Dec. 1, 2006.
The Department also published final regulations governing for the 2007-2008 award year the two new federal student grant programs — the Academic Competitiveness and SMART grants — that were enacted as part of HERA. These regulations are effective July 1, 2007.
As an additional resource, USA Funds® has posted on its Web site the integrated final regulations for 34 CFR Part 682 Federal Family Education Loan Program as compiled by the National Council of Higher Education Loan Programs. The document shows all regulatory changes published by the Department from the Aug. 9 and Nov. 1 editions of the Federal Register.
