College Goal Sunday Assists Students With FAFSA

Filling out financial aid paperwork can be time-consuming and overwhelming. To help address this issue, College Goal Sunday helps parents and college-bound students navigate the necessary paperwork and complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

USA Funds^® is providing support to College Goal Sunday in eight states and the District of Columbia.

The following states will offer USA Funds-supported College Goal Sunday programs in January and February:

• Arizona — 29 locations.
• Delaware — Three locations.
• District of Columbia — One location. 
• Hawaii — Eight locations. 
• Indiana — 36 locations. 
• Maryland — 15 locations. 
• Kansas — 19 locations.
• Wyoming — 12 locations.
• Florida — 55 locations.

College Goal Sunday originated in 1989 as a program of the Indiana Student Financial Aid Association and the State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana with funding from Lilly Endowment Inc. The program aims to help families surmount the paperwork barriers to receiving financial aid for higher education.

“Research has shown that too many families — particularly those who are low-income or first-generation students — simply were not applying for financial aid,” says Kyle Malone, USA Funds manager, access and outreach. “College Goal Sunday helps students complete the paperwork that is critical in receiving financial assistance for postsecondary education.”

Volunteers needed
Most College Goal Sunday sites need qualified financial aid administrators to volunteer, and general assistance with greeting, registration and organization.
