Meteor Offers Support to Schools Serving Students Displaced by Hurricanes
To assist colleges and universities in tracking financial-aid awards for students displaced by the recent hurricanes, the National Council of Higher Education Loan Programs and its Meteor Advisory Team advise the higher-education community of tools developed by the Meteor Network.
The Meteor Network is a Web-based universal-access channel for financial-aid information aggregated from multiple data sources across the country. NCHELP and the MAT recommend that financial-aid professionals work with their service providers to gain access to the Meteor Network to assist students attending their institutions from schools that have ceased operations in the wake of the Gulf-Coast hurricanes.
Information from all of the data providers can be accessed from the following Web sites:
Introduced in August of 2002, Meteor is a collaborative effort of many leading Federal Family Education Loan Program business partners and was developed under the auspices of NCHELP. The goal is to provide open, nonproprietary access to student-aid information in real time, using industry standards.
Providers in the Meteor Network represent more than 81 percent of FFELP-loan-guarantee data, more than 60 percent of FFELP-loan-servicing data, and more than 64 percent of alternative-loan data.
