USA Funds Presents Fall Financial-Aid Workshops

USA Funds®' Fall-2007 Financial-Aid Workshop series begins Oct. 9. Workshops will take place at 63 locations in 30 states across the country. The free workshops offer the latest information to help financial-aid professionals administer federal student loans and other financial-aid programs.

Workshop topics for the fall-2007 series include:

Federal update. Provides an analysis of the current legislation and the latest information about the status of reauthorization and other legislation, and offers an update on the 2008-2009 application and delivery system.

Satisfactory Academic Progress. Summarizes SAP policies to ensure that all the necessary requirements are met. Participants will review basic requirements, SAP appeals, awarding issues, as well as legal and ethical issues.

USA Funds update. Previews USA Funds’ new online entrance- and exit-counseling programs and default-management initiatives that will provide sound guidance to borrowers and help institutions prevent loan defaults.

FFELP issues. Offers a brief overview of the Federal Family Education Loan Program basics, and explores the implications of using a scheduled academic year or borrower-based academic year. Participants also will learn about loan proration and apply their knowledge to case studies to determine whether to prorate loans. Additional reference material will be provided for future use.

Professional judgment. Engages participants in an interactive session that incorporates a variety of realistic case studies. Topics include the “dos” and “don’ts” of making professional-judgment decisions and adjustments, ethical considerations, suggested documentation and what should be included in a school’s policies and procedures.

Register for a workshop at a location and date convenient for you. On-site registration begins at 8 a.m. Each workshop begins at 8:30 a.m. and adjourns at approximately 12:30 p.m.
