USA Funds Connection How-To: Adding an RSS Feed on the Home Page
A customization option recently made available in the USA Funds Connection® Web portal offers the ability to post Real Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds on users’ USA Funds Connection home page.
USA Funds Connection is a customized Web portal that serves as the gateway to Web-based information, resources and applications.
RSS feeds allow you to subscribe to a Web feed and use an aggregator tool to view syndicated information — news headlines, blogs and other content — in a standard format as it’s published or updated. The RSS tool automatically monitors users’ subscribed feeds for new information, downloads or other updates from these various sources and provides the information in one common place on the USA Funds Connection home page.
To set up the RSS tool on the USA Funds Connection home page, follow these steps:
- Locate and copy the URL address for the desired RSS feed. You may need to subscribe to an RSS feed on a Web site, such as a favorite news or reference site.
- Select “Personalize My Page” and then “Edit Personal Page” in the upper left navigation.
- Select “Add a Web Part” in the middle or right column of the page.
- Under “Default Web Parts,” select the “RSS Viewer” box.
- Click “Add.”
- In the RSS Viewer Web part, click the “edit” drop down in the upper right corner and choose “Modify My Web Part.”
- Enter or paste the URL address for the selected RSS feed in the “RSS Feed URL” field.
- You can specify a Web part title in the Title field under “Appearance.”
- Click “OK.”
- Select Exit Edit Mode in the upper right corner of the page.
You can move Web parts within the page by clicking and dragging the Web part to the desired location while in Edit Mode.
You can remove customized items on the home page at any time by selecting the “Reset My Page” option within the “Personalize My Page” drop-down. Any Web parts that have been moved, modified or added will be removed, and the home page will be reset to the original settings.
Posting RSS feeds is just one way in which you can customize USA Funds Connection for your own needs. One other way in which you can customize the portal is by adding Web parts.
