USA Funds Helps McDonald’s Honor Black History Makers of Tomorrow
Fourteen outstanding high-school students received scholarships Feb. 27 at the Indiana Statehouse as part of McDonald’s Restaurants of Central Indiana’s Black History Makers of Tomorrow program. For each of the past five years, USA Funds® has awarded $10,000 in support of the program.
The Black History Makers of Tomorrow program honors Indiana juniors and seniors who demonstrate exceptional leadership, character and community service. Scholarship recipients are selected based on their academic achievement, character, community service and submitted essays. Each student receives a $1,000 college scholarship from McDonald’s Restaurants of Central Indiana.
Celebrating the contributions of multiculturalism in Indiana is the basis of the McDonald’s Black History Makers of Tomorrow program. The goal is for students to reveal their plans for multiculturalism in Indiana and show how they effectively celebrate their ethnicity with cultures outside their own.
“The Black History Makers program is one of our great educational outreach programs,” says James Poore, McDonald’s owner and operator. “It provides an opportunity for all students, regardless of their cultural background, the opportunity to come together as one and showcase their vision of the future for our great state.”

“USA Funds’ support of the McDonald’s Black History Makers of Tomorrow program is consistent with USA Funds’ mission to promote postsecondary-education preparedness, access and success,” says Alicia Roberts, USA Funds assistant manager, philanthropy, who greeted participants at the event on behalf of USA Funds. “These students are tomorrow’s leaders, and it is an honor to be a part of a program that recognizes them and helps them pursue their postsecondary education.”
