USA Funds Offers Student-Loan Exit-Counseling Support

USA Funds^® University’s financial-aid consultants now are available to present group student-loan exit-counseling sessions. Individual advising also is available after the group sessions.

The exit-counseling sessions include all information required by federal regulations, including the following topics:

• Student rights and responsibilities.
• Repayment options.
• Loan consolidation.
• Consequences of default.

The sessions guide students through exercises to help determine monthly student-loan payments based on estimated monthly income. Consultants will emphasize financial planning, including development of a realistic budget, and provide an overview of sound financial principles and best practices.

Students will take away from the sessions a variety of student-loan-repayment resources and tools to assist them in managing their debt, including the following items:

• The USA Funds Education-Loan Organizer folder (a PDF file). This folder includes a glossary of education-loan terms, a list of borrower rights and responsibilities, and an insert sheet to track important contacts and correspondence.

• A copy of the exit-counseling presentation, suitable for note taking.
• Quicken^® New User Edition 2004 for Windows. This personal-finance software CD reinforces the financial principles and practices discussed in the exit-counseling session. The software will assist students in determining financial goals, establishing a personalized budget, tracking income and expenses, and managing their checkbooks and monthly bills.
