USA Funds Recognizes Three Schools for Debt-Management Excellence

USA Funds® has awarded scholarship funds to three postsecondary institutions that have successfully developed and implemented effective and creative debt-management programs for their students. The recipients of the 2004 USA Funds Excellence in Debt Management awards are:

  • Excellence Award ($2,500 Scholarship): Gateway Community College, Phoenix, Ariz., Bradley Honious, director of student financial assistance.

  • First Runner-Up ($1,500 Scholarship): Salish Kootenai College, Pablo, Mont., Jackie Hendrickson-Swain, loan officer.
  • Second Runner-Up ($1,000 Scholarship): University of Maryland, Baltimore, Carolyn Pritchett, debt-management counselor.

Summaries of the award-winning entries from the three schools are available in the online Best Practices in Debt Management manual.

The awards were based on descriptions of each school's debt-management programs and the achievement of the success factors identified by the school, demonstrated results and outcomes, and the potential for adaptation by other institutions.

USA Funds sponsored the awards program to recognize exceptional debt-management programs undertaken by postsecondary institutions. The awards program is part of a comprehensive initiative that USA Funds sponsors to promote best practices in debt management and education-loan default prevention.
