System Changes Scheduled to Accommodate New Stafford Loan Limits

System changes will be implemented May 29 to accommodate higher unsubsidized Stafford loan limits authorized by the Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loans Act of 2008. The higher limits are effective for loans first disbursed on or after July 1.

USA Funds® advises its school- and lender-partners of two options for submitting for guarantee the loan requests for the higher unsubsidized loan limits:

  • Schools can certify loan requests prior to May 29 using the current Stafford loan limits and submit a subsequent supplemental loan request for the additional unsubsidized amount after May 29.
  • Schools can delay certification until after May 29 and submit a request for the entire loan amount, including the additional unsubsidized amount.

Loan requests submitted on or before May 29 for amounts that exceed the current annual or aggregate Stafford loan limits will be processed based on the current loan limits.

For additional information, contact your USA Funds Services representative.

You will need Adobe Reader to access the loan limits table posted on the USA Funds Web site.
