Publications Select Recipients of USA Funds-Sponsored Scholarships

Stephanie StichterStephanie Stichter cites exercise science and physical therapy as two areas of study that she might pursue in college — and a $1,500 scholarship sponsored by USA Funds® will help her in that endeavor.

Stichter, a junior at Triton Junior-Senior High School in Etna Green, Ind., will receive the scholarship through the 2006-2007 Next Indiana: A Guide to Life After High School. USA Funds will fund the scholarship to an Indiana postsecondary school as part of its corporate sponsorship of the magazine.

USA Funds also serves as corporate sponsor of GRAD magazine and will fund a $1,500 scholarship for a student to attend graduate school in Indiana. Angela Brown, a student at Indiana University East, in Richmond, Ind., was selected as the scholarship recipient through the 2006-2007 edition of that publication.

Stichter and Brown were among the thousands of Indiana high-school and college students who returned reply cards from Next Indiana and GRAD. Their names were chosen at random from names on the cards, which permitted students to request information about careers, Indiana schools and Indiana companies.

Next Indiana is a publication of IBJ Media, publisher of the Indianapolis Business Journal; the Indiana Department of Education; and the Indiana Commission for Higher Education. The magazine provides information about the options available to students after high school and about topics such as handling finances and choosing a career. The magazine is delivered in the fall to more than 170,000 Indiana high-school juniors and seniors. USA Funds has been Next Indiana’s corporate sponsor for five consecutive years.

GRAD is a publication of IBJ Media and sponsored by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education and the Indiana Fiscal Policy Institute, with support from the Indiana Economic Development Corp. GRAD focuses on graduate-study opportunities, employment prospects and quality of life in Indiana. In the fall the magazine is distributed to more than 85,000 juniors and seniors at Indiana colleges and universities. The 2006-2007 edition marked the fourth-consecutive year in which USA Funds was corporate sponsor of GRAD.

Stichter is president of her school’s student council. She is active in volleyball and track as well as National Honor Society. She hasn’t selected a college yet but hopes to attend a smaller, private school.

“This scholarship is a good surprise,” Stichter said.
