House subcommittee approves reauthorization of graduate-education and international-studies program
The U.S. House Subcommittee on Select Education has approved two bills to reauthorize federal programs in support of graduate education and international studies. The Graduate Opportunities in Education Act places greater emphasis on subject areas facing teacher shortages, including math, science and special education, as well as programs to prepare teachers to meet the needs of students with limited English proficiency. The International Studies in Higher Education Act establishes a new advisory board to increase the accountability of federally funded international-studies programs on U.S. campuses.
