USA Funds Staff Profile: Looking at All the Angles

Susan GrosvenorSusan Grosvenor doesn’t make snap judgments about the cases she handles as a project coordinator in USA Funds®’ policy and compliance division.

That careful thought applied to each case is what allows her to look at each situation from a variety of perspectives, she says.

“There are a lot of things to consider in every case,” Grosvenor says. “I believe you can’t look at a problem once and come up with a conclusion. I like to document my first impression and then think it over.”

Grosvenor investigates reports of blanket guarantees of loan amounts that exceed the limit allowed by federal regulations. She also handles cases in which borrowers report they are eligible for loan refunds and those in which schools incorrectly certify education loans to students.

She works with lenders, schools and borrowers to determine whether any refunds are appropriate.

“I give everyone an opportunity to provide input and look for options for schools and lenders as they’re working to comply with regulations,” Grosvenor says.

Additionally, each spring Grosvenor works with schools to process any appeals they make to the U.S. Department of Education regarding their draft cohort default rates.

She joined USA Funds in 1991, and draws on her many years of experience in working with education loans when working to correct issues she investigates. Grosvenor’s extensive knowledge benefits borrowers, schools and lenders as well as U.S. taxpayers as she helps ensure proper use of funds.

Grosvenor’s proudest moments as project coordinator come when cases in which she is instrumental in resolving allow students to regain eligibility for federal financial aid for college. “In those cases, the outcome might be the deciding factor in whether a student can go back to school,” she says.

An Indianapolis native, Grosvenor holds a bachelor’s degree in business from Indiana University. In her spare time she collects antiques and is an avid runner; she recently completed her second marathon.
