Certain Graduate and Professional Students Now Have Higher Aggregate Loan Limits
The U.S. Department of Education announced an increase in the aggregate limit of federal education loan funds that graduate and professional students in certain health profession programs can borrow.
Graduate and professional students in those health profession programs now may borrow an aggregate total of up to $224,000 — an increase from the previous aggregate limit of $189,125. In Dear Colleague Letter GEN-08-04, the Department reported that it increased the aggregate limit in response to higher annual loan limits set by the Higher Education Reconciliation Act of 2005.
The letter refers readers to Section 703(a) of the Public Health Act and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Student Financial Aid Guidelines Notebook, in addition to previous guidance from the Education Department, for more information about the health profession programs that qualify for this aggregate loan limit increase.
