New USA Funds Life Skills Module Offers Financial Advice for Married Students
USA Funds® has introduced a new module of its award-winning USA Funds Life Skills® financial-literacy program that focuses on the unique needs of graduate and professional students and adult learners.
Module 7, “Connect as a Couple — Confronting Relationship Challenges Together,” is designed to help married students and their partners manage the changes and challenges that come from being married while in school. The module teaches students and their partners how to:
- Adjust to their new roles and tasks while one or both are in school.
- Anticipate and manage their financial challenges as a couple.
- Negotiate time for each other.
- Make decisions as a couple.
The module includes a Professional Resource Manual for students and Trainer’s Manual for presenters. The Professional Resource Manual covers topics such as:
- What challenges are unique to students and their partners?
- How do we find time for each other?
- Why is talking about money so problematic?
- What additional child-care expenses should we expect?
Also packaged with the module is a CD-ROM that offers students an interactive exercise, “Chore Credits and Duty Debits.” The exercise offers an entertaining way to allocate household tasks equitably between partners. The CD-ROM also features scenarios in which three different couples face relationship challenges that arise as one or both are in school. Each trainer receives a CD-ROM that provides a step-by-step training guide, PowerPoint presentations and the contents of the student CD-ROM.
USA Funds Life Skills materials for graduate and professional students are available at no cost to postsecondary institutions that use USA Funds as their primary guarantor and to all minority-serving institutions.
