USA Funds Helps 3-Million Students and ParentsUSA Funds® is a nonprofit corporation that works to enhance postsecondary-education preparedness, access and success by providing and supporting financial and other valued services. The following activities highlight USA Funds’ services in support of this mission during the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2006:

  • USA Funds supported education loans totaling $27.3 billion to 1.7 million students and their parents.
  • USA Funds’ scholarship support provided more than $8.9 million to help more than 5,900 students pay college expenses.
  • USA Funds provided emergency assistance that aided more than 3,000 students affected by natural disasters.
  • USA Funds distributed more than 170,000 free copies of its award-winning financial-literacy program to teach students personal-finance practices that minimize their college debt and prepare them for successful repayment of their student loans.
  • USA Funds provided funding to help 9,400 students and parents in nine states and the District of Columbia complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, the form necessary to qualify for federal and other sources of financial aid for college.
  • USA Funds helped nearly 1.2 million student-loan borrowers whose loan payments were 60 days or more past due avoid loan default, thereby saving the borrowers an estimated $5.2 billion and taxpayers approximately $15 billion in potential costs.
  • USA Funds provided funding and staff support that helped national scholarship organizations, including the United Negro College Fund, Hispanic Scholarship Fund, and the American Indian College Fund, raise $2.1 million for scholarship support.
  • USA Funds provided grants totaling nearly $5.1 million to 162 nonprofit organizations that help thousands of low-income and minority students gain access to postsecondary education.
